GROUND SOURCE
HEAT PUMPS

Our Renewable Heating Engineers supply & fit Ground Source Heat Pumps

Ground source heat pumps extract heat from pipes that are buried in the ground. This heat is then converted through a heat exchanger and compressor to create higher temperature heat.

A ground source heat pump circulates a mixture of water and antifreeze through buried loops of pipe, commonly known as ground arrays. Heat from the ground is absorbed into the fluid and then passes through a heat exchanger into the heat pump.

How does a Ground Source Heat Pump Work?

The ground source heat pump is a good solution for homes that have a large garden or a field. If you are restricted for space, bore holes can be drilled.

If installing a complete new heating system, ground source heat pumps work best in partnership with underfloor heating but can be retrofitted to radiator systems as well.

It is a popular misconception that the ground loops are heated from the earth's core, it is in fact the sun that maintains their temperature, as ground loops are buried just a metre below the surface.

How is a Ground Source Heat Pump fitted?

The pump itself is fitted internally, with careful consideration given to the operating noise of the unit. It needs electricity to run but that is the only operating cost, since the heat it extracts from the ground is renewed naturally.

For every kilowatt of electricity you buy from the grid you get approximately four kilowatts of heat in return.

The buried ground loops benefit from a relatively stable temperature. Ground source technology is therefore more efficient than an air source heat pump.

Why use K A Stripp Ltd?

The design and installation of ground source heat pumps is a complex task which we are qualified and competent to carry out. We also use subcontractors with state-of-the-art trenching machinery, which greatly reduces time and mess when laying out ground arrays.

K A Stripp Ltd are fully accredited with the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS), and RECC.

We can help you access the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Where you can receive a £7,500 grant for installing a Ground Source Heat Pump. Find out more below:
